Sacrament of Holy Matrimony

An engaged couple enters into the Sacrament of Matrimony with the intention that their union will be permanent, faithful and fruitful. Because marriage is both a vocation (a calling from God) and a sacrament, special gifts and graces are given to the couple entering Matrimony.

Engaged couples are required, by the Dioceses of Norwich, to participate in a marriage preparation program to help promote happy, life-long marriages. Topics covered in each of the programs include communication, hopes and fears, finances, attitudes, etc.

Arrangements for weddings must be made at least six months in advance of the wedding and prior to setting a firm date. This will allow sufficient time for the couple to complete the required meetings, to attend the pre-marriage programs and to prepare a proper celebration of the sacrament.
