St. Luke Parish is committed to the reality that young people are an important and integral part of its parish community. Our mission is to reach out to 8–12 grade students providing a place to connect and serve with God, peers and community. Our Core Values are to apply Scripture to our daily lives and experience prayer and worship in a variety of ways.
The Youth Ministry Leadership Team consist of teen volunteers and adult volunteers. This year’s teenage members are Renae G, Dan M, Molly M, Erin M, Emma S, Matthew M, and Aidan C. They have planned out a great year!
Youth Group Nights are scheduled September – May on most 4th Sundays of the month from 7:00-8:30 pm at St. Luke’s Church Hall. All are invited to join us at the 6:00 pm Mass before the Youth Group Night.
Each month, our teens are given a chance to meet Jesus at their level and learn how to include him into their daily lives. Social activities and parish involvement occurs throughout the year.
This past year, 2016-2017 the teens hosted their first Dance-A-Thon with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Over 60 teens participated and raised over $800 for Cornerstone, the local food kitchen and homeless shelter. October’s 2017 Dance-A-Thon will raise money for Jacob Roger Poulin Foundation (www.jrpf.org); which will build a playground in Ellington in memory of 5-year-old Jacob.
November 2017 is a busy month with participation at the diocesan’s Youth Explosion Day Retreat and the parish’s annual church bazaar. December will be filled with gifts and celebrations for our Lord’s birthday.
During the winter and spring seasons the teens will create Lenten pretzels, remember Jesus’ last days through an “Upper Room” experience, while continuing to learn how to develop their personal relationship with Jesus.
The Youth Ministry Leadership Team is always looking for teen and adult volunteers. For more information contact our Director of Youth Ministry, Joan Robinson at email@example.com.
